Bread and Butter Pudding

Serves: 4
4 slices stale white bread, thickly buttered
2 eggs
750 ml milk
125 ml (½ cup) sugar
1 ml (¼ tsp) salt
Golden syrup
Arrange the slices of bread in a greased ovenproof baking dish, buttered sides down.
Beat the eggs in a bowl, then stir in the sugar, salt and milk.
Pour the milk mixture over the bread and leave for 30 minutes to soak through.
Bake in the oven at 160ºC for 30 minutes.
Spread top liberally with golden syrup and bake a further 5 minutes.
